Employees of the street department, wastewater plant and solid waste department of Pekin, Illinois recently ratified new contracts as members of Teamsters Local 627.
All three agreements — and a fourth contract covering general workers in the central Illinois town — ensure Teamster representation for approximately 160 public employees. The new contracts are three-year agreements with annual wage increases for workers.
“The Teamsters and the City of Pekin had been negotiating these contracts since early March,” said Keith Gleason, President of Local 627, “and our members are pleased to enter the summer now with strong new agreements in-hand.”
The four contracts include the same adjustments in pay for all Teamster members — a 2.25 percent wage increase in the first year and 3 percent wage increases during each of the last two years.
The combined units include public employee bus drivers, mechanics, clerks and secretaries for various departments throughout Pekin.
Local 627 members approved the four contracts for ratification in a nearly unanimous vote, Gleason said.
