Dispatchers and customer service representatives at Cook DuPage Transportation (CDT) joined their paratransit driver and garage attendant co-workers by voting for Teamsters Local 727 representation on June 2.
“These workers have been heard loud and clear,” said John Coli Jr., President of Local 727. “We are incredibly proud to welcome them to our growing union family and incredibly proud of the way they have stood together.”
CDT dispatchers and customer service representatives voted 54-26 in favor of Teamster representation, just a few weeks after nearly 500 CDT paratransit drivers and garage attendants overwhelmingly voted to join Local 727. Teamsters from across Illinois and northwest Indiana have rallied in support of the workers in their quest to secure a voice in their working standards at CDT, which is located in Chicago’s vibrant Fulton Market.
Local 727 representatives are now preparing to negotiate with management for first contracts for all of the new CDT members.
“We will be meeting with members to find out what is most important to them as we move forward as a bargaining committee,” Coli said. “The union will stand by our new members and fight for them to ensure they have the kind of strong, fair Teamster contract they deserve.”
Teamsters Local 727 represents more than 7,000 members throughout the greater Chicago area, including hundreds of paratransit drivers, fixed-route drivers, dispatchers, call-takers, reservationists and mechanics at MV Transportation and First Transit locations in suburban Chicago. Local 727 recently secured first contracts for dispatchers and call-takers at MV Transportation Batavia and First Transit in Glenview.
Teamsters Local 727 is an affiliate of Teamsters Joint Council 25, America’s premier labor union for Chicago, Illinois and northwest Indiana.
